Robert H. Hu
As I write this column, the AALL convention is around the corner. The annual meeting is probably the most important event for our organization since we conduct our businesses, attend educational programs, meet new friends, and reunite with the fellows/friends we already know. As you plan for the convention, here are a few functions that you should keep in mind: first, our Caucus business meeting is scheduled for Sunday, July 17, 5:30pm - 6:45pm. We will hold an election of new officers among other agenda items. Immediately after the business meeting, we plan to go to our traditional banquet for anyone who is interested in participation. More information on the banquet will be announced later on. Second, you should consider attending a program co-sponsored by our organization, Managing for Cultural Diversity, which is slotted for Monday, July 18, 4:15pm - 5:15pm. Finally, the Diversity Symposium, sponsored by the Diversity Committee, will be held on Saturday, July 16, from 2pm to 5pm in Marriott Rivercenter. The theme for this symposium is, A Larger Patch in the Quilt: Latino Americans and their expanding Cultural and Political influence.
In addition to the above events, I have two resignations to announce. To begin with, Frank Bae, who had been the Vice-President/President-Elect this past year and was to assume the President's office this July, has withdrawn his name due to his imminent retirement - he has served as director of New England University Law Library (Boston) for over thirty years. Next, Mr. Yao Yuan, our Secretary/Treasurer for the past two years, has resigned from his post. He has left Georgetown University Law Library
to work as the Section Head of Knowledge Access Management in the Congressional Research Service of the Library of Congress. Both Yuan and Frank have long been associated with our organization and made significant contributions to our success. They will be missed.
To wrap up this column, I wish to thank all of you for the opportunity to serve you this past year. I also would like to thank many of the committee members and volunteers who contributed to our organization in a selfless way. I look forward to seeing you all in San Antonio.

A visit to the Local Advisory Committee (LAC) web page can simplify and enliven your trip to San Antonio for this year's Conference. The page contains "Essential" information plus tips on how to "Enjoy San Antonio." Either go directly to the LAC page or click your way there from AALL's homepage (start at www.aallnet.org, click on Annual Meeting, General Information, Local Advisory Committee Page).
Under "Essentials" are photos of the Conference hotels, a guide to booking a room, and options for transportation from the airport to your hotel. "Enjoy San Antonio" contains guides written by LAC Committee members to help you pack the most fun into your visit. These guides include nightlife, shopping, live music, museums and galleries, bookstores, music stores, libraries, LGBT, fun for families and kids, internet access, excursions, outdoor activities, fitness centers and spas, and places of worship. The guides are available in printer friendly versions so that you can easily bring the ones you want with you.
The LAC page also contains volunteer forms so you can assist the various committees (don't forget that volunteers get perks), a link to the Dine Arounds, a list of the Local Advisory Committee members in case you need to contact one of them, and the Conference registration form.

Words from the Editor
Greetings again to all our members! I write this on the first day of Summer, squeaking in this newsletter for June, with the ever capable assistance of Jessie Tam, as usual, prodding me along.
I thought holding off on the Newsletter until a bit closer to the AALL Conference might serve as a small motivator to those who will be able to meet in San Antonio. With library budgets as they are, it's always heartening to see individuals who are able to make it to the Annual Meeting, participate, and get involved in the profession. I won't be able to make it this year, but I recall being excited to finally meet all of the folks in person in AALLC that had communicated on the listserv, and able to connect names to smiling
faces at the business meeting. I encourage all of you who are attending the Annual Meeting to make an effort to make it to the business meeting on Sunday, as I'm sure it will be a way to reconnect with old friends as well as meet new ones.
