Adam Mackie
Reference Librarian
University of Connecticut School of Law

Why did you join AALLc?

I spent so much time studying Asian law in Hawaii that I prayed it would be a surprise subject on the bar exam.  Spoiler alert, it wasn’t.  AALLc gives me an opportunity to make use of that skill set.

What do you do as a law librarian?

As a reference librarian, I think my role here at the law school is to connect patrons with all the valuable resources our library has to offer and to teach something about the research process along the way.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I’ve heard it said many times that our library serves as the heart of the campus.  That’s an exciting role for a library to play and something I very much enjoy in terms of fostering a sense of community here at UConn Law.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I like hurling.  Hurling, not to be confused with curling or the other verb that shares the same word, is Ireland’s national sport and can be described as a mix between field hockey, baseball, and lacrosse.

What is your favorite travel destination in Asia or elsewhere in the world?

Kyoto is my favorite place on planet earth.  Walking around the Fushimi Inari Shrine at night was one of the most magical experiences of my life.
