The Day in the Life Contest starts January 1, 2014. Entries must be submitted between January 1 and February 28, 2014.

Winners will be recognized on AALLNET, AALL Spectrum, and during the 2014 annual meeting in San Antonio.

How Do I Enter?

  1. Read the contest rules
  2. Complete and submit an entry form for each submission
  3. Complete a release form for each individual pictured or filmed
    • Note: entries are not valid until all signed releases are received by Stacy Schuble at AALL Headquarters (see contact info below)
  4. Upload your photo or video to your Flick account
    • When you upload a photo or video, be sure to:
      • Give your entry a title (Flickr will put in the file name, click in the box to edit)
      • Under "Add a Description", enter:
        • The category for your entry
        • Submitted by [your name]
        • Entry by [name]
        • A brief description of the entry, including names of individuals, date, and location
  5. Add the photo or video to the AALL Day in the Life Flickr group: http://www.flickr.com/groups/aallditl2014

How Do I View Entries?

Contest Rules

  1. COPYRIGHT: By submitting an entry, applicants grant permission to the American Association of Law Libraries full rights to publish, reproduce, and publicize entries in any paper or electronic publishing formats. The permission includes, but is not limited to, publication by AALL on AALLNET, in any AALL publication, or at AALL meetings and educational programs. You will not be compensated for such use. However, where reasonable, we will give you credit for the photos.
  2. Only AALL members may submit entries for the contest. Members of the 2013-2014 AALL Public Relations Committee are not eligible for the contest but may submit photos and videos for other uses by AALL.
  3. Entries must be submitted by February 28, 2014. All electronic entries must be submitted online by February 28. Mailed entries must be postmarked by February 28.
  4. Time frame for entries: photos must have been taken and videos must have been filmed between March 1, 2013 – February 28, 2014.
  5. Electronic submissions of photos are preferred. Electronic entries must be digital image files of photographs or scans of photographs in JPEG format with a resolution of 300 dots per inch (dpi), a minimum size of 1536 x 2048 pixels, and a maximum file size of 1 MB. When scanning photos, set the scanner at high resolution/print quality/300 dpi. When taking pictures with a digital camera, make sure that the camera is set at high resolution and the largest photo size possible. Electronic entries can be submitted online or saved to CD-ROM and mailed to AALL Headquarters (see address below).
  6. Photographic paper prints may also be submitted (in sizes 4" x 6", 5" x 7", or 8" x 10") in either black and white or color. Paper prints should be mailed to AALL Headquarters (see address below).
  7. Mailed submissions will not be returned. Entries will remain the property of AALL. By submitting an entry, applicants grant permission to the American Association of Law Libraries full rights to publish, reproduce, and publicize entries in any paper or electronic publishing formats. Entries may be scanned, described, displayed, linked, or reproduced on AALLNET, in any AALL publication, or at AALL meetings and educational programs.
  8. Each entry must be accompanied by a separate entry form, including a title, brief description of the photo or video, the names of the individual(s) in the photo or video, location, date and time, as well as the name, job title, and contact information for the member submitting the entry and the name of the photographer or videographer.
  9. All individuals appearing in submitted photographs or videos must sign a release. Entries will not be valid until all signed releases are received at AALL Headquarters by email (sschuble@aall.org), mail (see address below), or fax (312-205-8021).
  10. Each AALL member may submit up to ten photos total. The entries do not have to be spread among the categories.
  11. Altered Images/Special Effects: except for minor editing such as cropping, red-eye reduction and color correction, altered images are not eligible for entry in any category except the Best Altered Image/Use of Special Effects category. Entries in the Best Altered Image category are not eligible for Best Overall Photo.
  12. Best Video: videos must be original content and the topic should be related to law librarianship. Videos must be 3 minutes or under in length. Videos must be uploaded to the Day in the Life AALL My Communities web page. Videos must comply with copyright law (music, etc.). Each AALL member may submit up to three videos. Videos may not exceed 1GB.
  13. Winners from the contest will be announced at the 2014 AALL Annual Meeting in San Antonio. Photos will be judged on composition, quality, subject, lighting, creativity, and the ability to capture of the spirit of law librarianship. Videos will be judged on originality, production quality, and the ability to capture the spirit of law librarianship.
    The 2013-2014 AALL Public Relations Committee will judge the entries and select the top five winning entries for each category.
    AALL members will then be invited to vote for their favorites in each category, as well as for Best Overall Photo. Winners will be recognized on AALLNET, in an issue of AALL Spectrum, and during the 2014 AALL Annual Meeting in San Antonio.
