Last month, House Judiciary Committee Chair Bob Goodlatte announced that the Committee will undertake a comprehensive review of copyright law in coming months. Goodlatte noted that along with Copyright Register Maria Pallante's recent statement that we need "the next great copyright act," fast changing technology is another driver of this review, just as it was for the Third Revision of U.S. copyright law in 1909.  [more]

On March 30, 2013, the District Court for the Southern District of New York granted summary judgment for Capitol Records in Capitol Records v. ReDigi.  The Court granted summary judgment on claims against ReDigi for direct, contributory, and vicarious infringement of distribution and reproduction rights.   ReDigi provides an online marketplace for legally purchased digital music.  The Court rejected the application of the first sale doctrine to the resale of digital works.
