JRG Funding: What can it be used for?

Sometimes you need some funding to progress a project you are working on, but you just don’t what expenses are or are not appropriate.    To help clarify these questions Chris Long, JRG committee member and a previous JRG award winner, compiled a list of examples.

  • Subscription to Zoomerang or Survey Monkey to conduct a survey
  • Postage, envelopes, copying expenses, etc. to mail a survey
  • Food and beverage to draw people to a focus group meeting
  • Prizes to entice people to participate in your survey
  • Hire a research assistant
  • Travel to do research in libraries and other organizations
  • Purchase a software package that will aid your research  (i.e. statistical software, indexing software)
  • Purchase Office supplies (paper, toner, etc.) needed for your project
  • Cover a fee from using an association’s mailing list to survey its members
